What It Was Like To Ride In The 2011 Montrose Christmas Parade

This was my second time riding in the parade and I thought you might like to know what it was like. Here Ken Grayson (center) met up with Dale and I at Mountain Rose Gifts. We represented the MSPA (Montrose Shopping Park Association).

Former board member Carole Brookshire joined us as we were shuttled to the VIP area.

Now it's our turn to travel in style. We were escorted by Don Tucker and his beautiful horse drawn wagon. This is the same carriage that was used for Mickey Rooney when he was the Grand Marshal.

People got so excited when the trucks pulled up and out came SNOW!

SNOW!!! Right in the middle of Honolulu Ave!

Kids & adults both enjoyed playing in it.

At 7:00 pm we lit up the town with our 1st Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The giant "Hollywood" tree can be seen at the corner of Honolulu & Ocean View.

As the town was being lit snow began falling.

It was magical!

Imagine playing in the snow while surrounded by millions of lights.

Carolers strolled our streets.

The MSPA (Montrose Shopping Park Association) rejoiced with Councilman Frank Quintero after seeing months of planning bring joy to so many.

This was so much fun!

2nd Annual Montrose Film Festival 2011

Film Festival founders Steve Pierce & Tony Smith with the help of Dale Dawson & the Montrose Shopping Park Association once again brought us an end of Summer event the whole family enjoyed.This year we showcased "American Graffiti" & "Grease".

Getting ready!... Here Dale hangs movie posters on the new facade he built for the occasion.

Steve Fuller, who does special effects for the movie industry, helped design the facade and is decorating the custom topper he welded with little white lights.

The CV Prom Plus crew served free, hot, popcorn and helped as food runners for the local restaurants.

Classic cars and those dressing 50's style really put us in the mood.

There were even actresses in the audience who dressed the part, like Alexandra Smothers.

There were live bands playing 50's & 60's tunes each night.

Folks couldn't help but get up & dance!

Lots of classic cars cruised Honolulu Ave. Friday night.

There's nothing like watching a movie under the stars on a Summer night.

A Moving Memorial Day Tribute

Community leaders, Cub Scouts, and neighbors came together at the Vietnam Memorial to honor those who have given their lives in military service for our freedom. This year's ceremony was especially moving with several people commenting that after attending for many years this was the best one yet. To find out why, please read on.

It was such a perfect day as we all observed the raising of the flag.

This year the names of 5 additional Veterans from the Crescenta Canada Valley, who gave their lives during the Vietnam War, were officially added to the Memorial.

The event was beautifully hosted by the Montrose Shopping Park and the Montrose Verdugo Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Laura Friedman was the opening speaker. Pictured from left, Mayor Friedman, MVCC President Scott Trulik, Dale, MSPA President Alyce Russell, and Glendale Councilmen Ara Najarian and Frank Quintero.

MSPA Executive Director Dale Dawson and MVCC Executive Director Melinda Clarke did a great job assembling a very meaningful ceremony.

Glendale Councilman Ara Najarian joined all of us in honoring Bill Dodson who maintains the War Memorial and was responsible for discovering the names of the 5 additional men.

Dale Dawson shared a moving account of the last days of Captain James Bauder.

This family along with many other Boy Scouts came to pay tribute.

We are thankful for the many folks who came out to honor those who gave their lives.

Sir Vito Cannella (center) led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Air Force Tech Sergeant Kevin Traber ( right)read the names of those in our area that gave their lives.

Beautiful wreaths and flowers graced the Memorial.

We always look forward to seeing L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich. Pictured here with Melinda and myself.

It was a moving day but also a joyous day. Thanks once again to Henry from the Montrose Bakery who provided coffee and delicious pastries for us.

The First Annual Montrose Film Festival, August 2010

It was so cozy watching cartoons, Dennis Morgan, and John Wayne movies under the stars.

The evening started with fresh, FREE popcorn. Pictured left to right are organizers Steve Pierce, Tony Smith, and a helper.

We were transported back in time by the MAESTROS BAND, a 70 year old musical fraternity with 60 members.

There were wonderful volunteers like Amelia and Jessica from Once Upon A Time.

Tony Smith sharing his movie passion with us. It was a joyful time!

Another "sweet" touch was Linda & her son Alex selling candy from the Montrose Candy Company.
